Color Definitions

complementary color system: pairs of colors that are of “opposite” hue in some color model 


Achromatic Color System: Designating color perceived to have zero saturation and therefore no hue, such as neutral grays, white, or black.

Analogous Color System -uses colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel


Monochromatic Color System: all the colors (tints, tones, and shades) of a single hue


Split-complementary Color System is a group of three colors selected from the color wheel. It is made up of one color plus the colors on each side of its complement. The complement of a color is the color directly opposite it on the color wheel.
